Adopt a Dog – Meet Hi Bi Bi

he’s a three year old, unneutered shitzu. Do you know that Hi Bi Bi means ‘baby’ in Arabic? He wasn’t living a great life and a foster home might be good for him, so he can learn that not everyone wants to hurt him.

Adopt a Dog – Meet Thriller

This is a dog we are advertising for on behalf of an amazing woman in Okinawa. He is 4 years old and neutered. If you are interested in him please contact us for further information. This is a special case so we aren’t using our normal adoption process.

Here is what the woman, Karen, told us about him:

Thriller is a purebred Shiba-Inu neutered male saved from death at the Japanese pound. He spent seven months at a local dog training school where he learned to obey all basic commands, plus some really cool tricks.
His favorite tricks are endless fetching and dancing on his back legs. He loves walks, rides in the car and getting brushed.
He is estimated to be between 3-4 years old. He is heartworm negative, has all his shots and is awaiting Rabies and microchip.
The Shiba-Inu is one of the last ancient Japanese royal breeds and Thriller is a King. He has food aggressions and is extremely territorial. He is more interested in pleasing his master than being a friend to another dog. Because of this, Thriller will do best in a home with no other animals and it is not recommended that he be placed in a home with very small children.
Similar to the Japanese Akita because of their fur and fierce loyalty, Shiba-Inu are a great breed to adopt because they are medium-sized dogs that are smart and loyal. If interested in adopting Thriller, please contact Karen at 926-2242 or email at karen@barefootpublishingco.com

Have you checked out ARK?

Our shelter is small so we don’t get puppies very often, and overall we can only have a small number of animals. However, this doesn’t mean you need to pay thousands of dollars for an animal from off base. Check out Tokyo Ark, a branch of Animal Rescue Kansai (ARK). They have puppies, as well as a much larger selection of dogs that are looking for foster and forever homes. Of course they also have kittens, cats, and the occasional silver fox.

The photo below is of Ginja, a silver fox that needs sponsoring. She lives at ARK’s main compound, near Osaka.

We often work with ARK– when they have animals that need to try a new location, we take them, etc.

If you are looking to rescue an animal, or foster, ARK is another fantastic place to look.

Looking for a Dog Trainer?

We are lucky to know Mrs. Yayoi Blackman. She is a JKC certified dog trainer who currently volunteers with us, working with our dogs. She is available for private lessons or you can set up a group lesson if you’d like. She does basic and advanced obedience, puppy training and can also help you with other dog issues such as aggressiveness or being overly playful. She can even train in agility although you would have to provide the course obstacles.

Just e-mail us and we will give you her number.
We also have her business cards at the shelter if you want to stop by and grab one. I will be uploading it soon, hang on~
